CALL FOR PAPERS – ‘Fashion’
Australian Feminist Studies (Routledge/Taylor & Francis) is seeking contributions for a 2018 special themed issue on FASHION to be edited by Maryanne Dever and Lisa Adkins with guest co-editor Ilya Parkins.
We are keenly interested in receiving articles that demonstrate how intersectional, feminist theoretical tools support new analyses of fashion, more than articles simply focusing on the relationship between feminism and fashion.
Original articles may be up to 8,000 words in length. For this issue shorter thematic pieces (up to 5,000 words) may be considered for the journal’s Feminist Debates and Reflections section, while pieces covering novel projects or new resources for thinking about feminism’s engagement with fashion may also be considered for the Research Notes section.
Prospective contributors are encouraged to review the journal’s aims and scope and instructions for authors prior to making a submission. Submissions should be formatted according to the journal’s house style. All submissions will be peer-reviewed as per the journal’s policy.
Proposals covering any discipline or national domain are welcome.
Areas explored may include (but are not limited to):
• New political economies of fashion
• Modest fashion
• Rethinking production
• Subcultural fashion
• New dandyisms
• Cultural appropriation
• Fashion and new femininities
• Feminist engagements with aesthetic labour
• Trans* fashion
• Wearable technologies
• Fashion house archives
• Dress and memory
• Sustainable fashion, post-consumer textile waste and environmental politics
• Teen Vogue
• Modelling
• Fashion blogs
• Fashion and feminist pedagogy
• Fashion and the new feminist materialisms
• Affect
• Multi-platform fashion journalism
• Luxury fashion
• Vintage fashion
• Online shopping, including online fashion consignment sites
• Fashion in film and music video
Abstracts (500 words) with brief bio notes should be submitted by 1 October 2017, with full submissions due 1 March 2018. Inquiries and abstracts can be sent to afs at newcastle.edu.au.
