*The Square Screen: A reflection on unhip cinema of the 1960s*

Illustrated with a variety of clips, this reflection suggests how
mainstream films of the American Sixties complicate easy divisions of the
period into establishment cinema and a hip, cutting-edge alternative.

Dana Polan is a Professor of Cinema Studies at NYU and author of 8 books in
lm and media studies, including 'Power and Paranoia: History, Narrative,
and the American Cinema, 1940-1950', 'Scenes of Instruction: The Beginnings
of the U.S. Study of Film, 1915-1935', and 'Julia Child’s the French Chef'
