Transformations Journal and the SCU School of Arts and Social Sciences
present:

Strategies for an Environmental Humanities: Where To Now?

An Interdisciplinary Symposium
1 July 2016
Southern Cross University, Gold Coast campus

The symposium will address strategies for an environmental humanities
responding to the environmental crisis as an urgent demand. What kind of
environmental humanities can best address the pressing issues of climate
change and the challenge to think and act in the right way? Can the
environmental humanities afford to stay within the limits of the traditional
humanities, posing questions of the human-nature relation through its
textual, critical, creative, interpretive and aesthetic approaches, or does
it reach beyond itself to forge a rapprochement with the sciences to address
the challenges and threats of anthropogenic climate change? What are the
consequences for taking these options? What is gained and what is lost?

In addressing these questions, this interdisciplinary symposium will draw
together researchers from across the humanities as well as researchers
working in scientific disciplines. The symposium also includes the launch of
The Green Thread: Dialogues with the Vegetal World, edited by Patrícia
Vieira, John Ryan and Monica Gagliano, published by Rowman and Littlefield.
Discussion at the symposium will feed the development of a special issue of
the Transformations journal addressing strategies for the environmental
humanities.

This symposium will take place at the Southern Cross University Gold Coast
campus, Building A, A2.20, Southern Cross Drive, Bilinga QLD (turn left off
the Gold Coast Airport entrance).
