++AULLA Conference 2016++
"Love and the Word"
Call for Papers Closes 29th February 2016
The AULLA committee is thrilled to announce the keynote speakers for the 2016 conference on Love and the Word:
* Peter Cryle (University of Queensland)
* Anne Freadman (University of Melbourne)
* Kam Louie (University of New South Wales)
++The Conference++
Hosted by Victoria University, the Australasian Universities Languages & Literature Association Conference will be held in Melbourne, Australia from 7th-9th December 2016. The conference website is: http://conference2016.aulla.com.au/
This conference theme draws on AULLA's origins as an association of scholars working in fields of philology. Thus we examine both philos (love) and logos (word). How does affection affect words? What do people mean by 'love' and its counterparts in the world's languages? Or perhaps: how does it 'do' those meanings?
We encourage papers with a focus on engaged studies and discussions of teaching practice and of critical/exegetical responses to creative practice. Papers that respond to 'love and the word' in the fields of languages, the literary study of other languages, and philosophical approaches to cultural expression are expressly welcome. We also expressly welcome interdisciplinary angles on the theme, such as Cultural Studies, Indigenous Studies, Postcolonial Studies, and comparative approaches.
++Venue++
The conference will be held at Victoria University in Footscray, Melbourne. In 2016 VU celebrates its centenary as a tertiary education institute. This celebration draws the University, like this conference, to reflect on where it has come from and where it might be going.
