Subject: CFP: The 'Muslim Question', Citizenship and Racism in Australia/Cronulla riots-10-years-on joint symposium

Dear CSAA members,

Please find attached information regarding an upcoming symposium, co-hosted by Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation (Deakin University) and the Institute for Culture and Society (University of Western Sydney). The symposium will comprise two days with a specific, though interconnected, focus:

Day one (Mon 14th Dec, 2015): Islamic Religiosity, Active Citizenship and Belonging will invite papers which address "the Muslim question" in pubIic policy debates, paying attention to the specific role of Islamic religiosity to performances of citizenship and belonging.

Day two (Tue 15th Dec, 2015): Cronulla Riot 10 Years On will mark the 10 year anniversary of the Cronulla riots by reflecting on just how significant the Cronulla Riots were, then and now, and whether -in a world preoccupied with the War on Terror- they remain a useful reference point for discussions of intercultural relations and multiculturalism in Australia.

Speakers include: (More to follow)
- Professor Anoop Nayak (Newcastle University, UK)
- Professor Ghassan Hage (University of Melbourne, Australia)
- Professor Fethi Mansouri (Deakin University, Australia)
