Teaching Posts in Film Production at Multimedia University, Malaysia
Multimedia University’s Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA) is seeking to employ full-time academic staff to teach on its Bachelor in Cinematic Arts.
The programme has been designed in collaboration with the University of Southern California’s (USC) School of Cinematic Arts and is offered at MMU's brand new EduCity campus in Johor Bahru, Malaysia - in close proximity to Pinewood's newly established Iskandar Malaysia Studios.
The collaboration between MMU, Malaysia’s highest ranked private university, and USC, the world’s leading film school, promises an exciting programme for those aspiring to have a career in the movie industry. The programme's close proximity to Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios will give students the opportunity to study first hand the film industry at work, providing an insider’s experience before graduation.
FCA is now looking to hire full-time academic staff for it’s Cinematic Arts programme. Applicants should hold a Masters degree and/or have relevant industry experience in an area related to the cinematic arts. We are especially interested in candidates with practical experience in cinematography, producing/distribution or directing. Other areas of expertise will be considered. Industry/practical experience is essential as is the enthusiasm and ability to teach film production on a theoretical as well as practical level.
This is an opportunity for filmmakers/academics based in or with an affinity to South East Asia or other emerging media markets. The posts are paid competitively under a local Malaysian salary package. The recruitment is ongoing until posts are filled.
Should the above be of interest to you, please email your CV and cover letter to Nico Meissner (nico.meissner at mmu.edu.my) or contact Nico for an initial informal chat.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out industry-relevant and theoretically informed teaching in their area of expertise and supervise students' film projects. They have to actively engage in the creation and dissemination of academic research and/or artistic work. Administrative duties will also form part of the successful candidate's job scope.
FCA is a small faculty with a young and dynamic group of lecturers. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the life at the faculty and ensure its growth, advancement and recognition. This requires an entrepreneurial mind-set and a highly self-motivated and reliable person, who can dream, discuss and develop the faculty with us.
About the Cinematic Arts Programme
The Cinematic Arts Programme is a national agenda programme that has been established to provide international film and television productions at Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios with local talent and crew as well as to spearhead the talent development for the Malaysian film industry.
To ensure a programme of high academic quality and industry relevance, the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts is acting as academic consultant during the programme’s development stage.
The Cinematic Arts Programme occupies a purpose-made building within EduCity, Iskandar, Malaysia. Its close proximity to Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios gives students and staff the unique opportunity to experience and participate in world-class international film and television productions.
