Neutralization is a political phenomenon which is spreading across many countries, Italy being an example. If it happens that the main political parties cannot form a coalition or find an agreement, they delegate the political decisions to so-called 'experts' or 'technicians', usually economists. However, technicians are not "neutral" as they pretend to be: they represent the official science and inevitably tend to the conservation of the status quo. Democracy is seriously threatened by this phenomenon.

Gianni Vattimo is one of the most important living philosophers. He is also a member of the European Parliament. His most recent book, Hermeneutic Communism (2011) was co-authored with Santiago Zabala.

Jeff Malpas is Distinguished Professor at the University of Tasmania and author of numerous books on topics in philosophy, art, architecture, and geography.
