About the Book
Transnational Australian Cinema: Ethics in the Asian Diasporas (Lexington 2013) charts a history of Asian Australian cinema, encompassing the work of diasporic Asian filmmakers, films featuring images of Asia and Asians, films produced by Australians working in Asia’s film industries or addressed to Asian audiences, and Asian films that use Australian resources, including locations and personnel. It considers diasporic Asian histories, the impact of government immigration and film policies on representations, and the new aesthetic styles and production regimes created by filmmakers who have forged links, through roots and routes, with Asia. This expanded history of Asian Australian cinema contributes to our broader aim to rethink the transnationalism of Australian cinema. This book is a completion of the Australian Research Council funded project, The History of Asian Australian Cinema (2009-2011) (DP0987349).

About the Authors
Olivia Khoo is Senior Lecturer in Film and Television Studies at Monash University. She has published widely on Asian and Asian Australian cinema in journals including Inter-Asia Cultural Studies, Asian Studies Review, and Screening the Past. She is the author of The Chinese Exotic: Modern Diasporic Femininity (2007) and co-editor of Futures of Chinese Cinema: Technologies and Temporalities in Chinese Screen Cultures (2009). Her co-edited volume with Audrey Yue, Sinophone Cinemas, is forthcoming with Palgrave Macmillan in late 2013. Belinda Smaill is Senior Lecturer in Film and Television Studies at Monash University. She is the author of The Documentary: Politics, Emotion, Culture (2010) and co-editor of Youth, Media and Culture in the Asia Pacific Region (2008). She has published widely on Australian film and television, women and cinema and documentary studies. Audrey Yue is Associate Professor in Screen and Cultural Studies at The University of Melbourne. She is author of Ann Hui’s Song of the Exile (2010), and co-editor of Queer Singapore: Illiberal Citizenship and Mediated Cultures (2012), AsiaPacifiQueer: Rethinking Gender and Sexuality in the Asia Pacific (2008) and Mobile Cultures: New Media in Queer Asia (2003). She is Chief Investigator in two current ARC projects on transnational large screens and multicultural arts governance.

About Tony Ayres:
Tony is a writer/director/producer for film and television.  His 2007 feature film THE HOME SONG STORIES, premiered atBerlin and won 23 Australian and international awards including 8 AFI Awards.  His first feature WALKING ON WATER won the Teddy Award at Berlin in 2002 and 5 AFI awards.  In 2008, Tony directed the television movie, Saved, for which Claudia Karvan won the Logie for Best Actress.  In recent times he has become a producer of television, producing the comedy series BOGAN PRIDE and the arts doco series ANATOMY (the latter now going into series 4).  Tony was the showrunner and one of the directors of “The Slap”, the 8 x 1 hour TV adaption of Christos Tsoilkas’ novel.  “The Slap” won 5 awards including Best Miniseries or TV Movie at the inaugural AACTA awards. He is currently working on the upcoming ABC series NOWHERE BOYS.
