“Sub-Saharan Dolly: The Circulation of Media Entertainment in Malawi”. A public seminar by Professor Jonathan Gray at Queensland University of Technology.
Thursday 6 December, 2-4pm, IHBI Seminar Room (Q-430), Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove.
What does Dolly Parton's popularity in Malawi tell us about how and why media entertainment moves across the globe? Drawing from his fieldwork, Professor Jonathan Gray talk will analyze the informal distribution of entertainment in a country that media multinationals actively ignore.
This talk will be followed by an overview of research in the Entertainment Industries program at QUT.
Jonathan Gray is Professor of Media and Cultural Studies at University of Wisconsin, Madison. His eight books include ‘Television Entertainment’ and ‘Show Sold Separately: Promos, Spoilers, and Other Media Paratexts’.
