PhD Scholarship in Social and Locative Media(Position Number: 28066)

Swinburne Institute for Social Research 
Full-time Scholarship for 3 years, commencing July 2012 
Based at the Hawthorn campus

for high-impact focused research. Our research focuses on niche and
emerging areas, and we’re driven to find innovative research solutions
to real world problems. 
The Swinburne Institute for Social Research (SISR) has a scholarship
available for a PhD candidate to conduct research around the political
economy of social and locative media. Your research will contribute to
an Australian Research Council funded project – The Cultural Economy of
Locative Media.
As part of your research you will aim to answer some of the following
questions:
-       What are the implications of the political economies of social
and locative media for broader understandings of media and technology
-       Do the activities and business models of social and locative
media services challenge received wisdom concerning entertainment
industry economics?
-       What are the regulatory and policy implications of these media
and their operations?
Skills & Experience
You will need to have completed a Bachelor degree with first class
Honours in media and communications, or related fields, to be suitable
for this role. You will also need to demonstrate knowledge of emerging
trends and implication of new media on business and economics.
To be successful in your application you will need the ability to
manage tight deadlines, use initiative, conduct independent research
projects and demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills.
