Call for Expressions of Interest: Discovery Early Career Researcher Award applications in Social and Cultural Research

Institute for Culture and Society

The Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) within the University of Western Sydney (UWS) incorporates the Centre for Cultural Research, and launches in 2012. ICS constitutes a major national and international Institute for the pursuit of engaged interdisciplinary cultural and social research. Independently assessed as performing at the highest levels of international excellence for Cultural Studies in the 2011 Excellence for Research in Australia exercise, UWS has developed the Institute as a vehicle for coordinating interdisciplinary cultural research across the humanities and social sciences and as means of connecting Australian cultural research to relevant research overseas.

With the continuation of the Australian Research Council’s Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme in 2012 (see the website: http://www.arc.gov.au/ncgp/decra.htm) and a University commitment of significant new funding, ICS is investing in Australia’s next generation of leading cultural researchers by supporting innovative and outstanding DECRA proposals.
