SUBMITTING MANUSCRIPTS

Manuscripts should be no longer than 25 pages (approximately 7,000-7,500 words) of double-spaced 12 point text with 1 inch margins, including notes and references, and paginated. Manuscripts may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. We will translate for publication manuscripts accepted in Spanish or Portuguese. Manuscripts submitted to LAP should not simultaneously be under consideration for publication in English elsewhere. LAP style guidelines are available on our web site and generally follow University of Chicago style.
LAP Book Reviews

Except in special cases, book reviews should take the form of review essays that critically discuss the major themes dealt with in two or more books that focus on the same or related subject(s) and should focus on significant works that make an important contribution to the existing literature. The review should focus on the more important themes raised in the books and discuss both their main contributions and the main shortcomings. Essays should not describe each of the various chapters in an edited volume. The essay should cite the most relevant works in the literature to which the books under review belong (as a guideline, between 5 and 15 references.) Book review manuscripts should be between 5 and 15 pages of double-spaced text in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. LAP translates manuscripts accepted in Spanish or Portuguese. The LAP style guide is available on online and generally follows University of Chicago format.

Book reviews are currently being coordinated by LAP Coordinating Editor, Kristi Wilson. Prospective contributors should feel free to communicate with her at: kwilson at soka.edu.

Photos for LAP Covers and Photo Essays

Latin American Perspectives is seeking photography for future covers and interior photo essays. Photographs submitted for possible covers must be esthetically and technically of the highest quality, in color, and should complement the theme for proposed future issues. Interior photo essays will be published in black and white (they can be converted from color) and fit a theme. To propose a photo essay, contact the issue editor for the issue to which the photo essay is to be submitted or Future Issues Coordinator Rosalind Bresnahan at rosalind568 at gmail.com. All photographs must have a specific and clear copyright release from the photographer or copyright holder, or be demonstrably in the public domain (by law we cannot use photographs without a formal copyright release). Image specifications are available on our web site.
