Dear Friend:

Plans are proceeding for the Da Nang campus for some time in 2012.

As we build staffing and leadership I have the budgetary approval to move ahead with a number of key hires.

To that end I attach a draft job description for the Dean of Faculty. Given the myriad responsbiliteis in helping to start a university, she or he will need to be a generalist and committed to team work as well as having familiarity with the developing world and the ambiguities or working in environments like Vietnam!
The AUV Website will go "live" in early June.

Founding Dean of the Faculty
The American University of Vietnam

The American University of Vietnam, the first licensed, US-funded University in Vietnam, is seeking a special individual to serve as Founding Dean of the Faculty.
With a main campus planned for Da Nang and academic centers in Cu Chi and Ho Chi Minh City, the American University of Vietnam will offer a general education curriculum for all students along with and professional programs in business, hospitality management, engineering, environmental studies, communication and other academic disciplines
In addition, AUV will provide a university prep program for students needing additional support in English, math and study skills. AUV also aspires to be “the” destination for study abroad programs to Vietnam from the US.
The Dean will work with the President will recruit a small inaugural cohort of faculty, expand US university partnerships, implement the academic programs as well as other academic, administrative and student relations activities. S/he will also be expected to teach a course per semester.
Those with experience in the developing world (especially Asia), ability to work with cultural differences and ambiguity, strong work ethic, sense of humor and a commitment to team work are encouraged to apply. A terminal degree from a regionally accredited US university and prior teaching and management experience in higher education are required.
A start date of late summer 2011 is anticipated with a salary of $60-72,000 along with a housing subsidy, health insurance and round trip airfare annually from the US. Cost of living in Vietnam is appreciably lower than the US.
This is a unique opportunity to help build something special in Vietnam. For consideration send applications with 5 references or nominations to:
