EXPLORING ACADEMIC PRACTICE CONFERENCE

Welcome to the Academia: A Scholarly Life conference. Organised by the University of Western Sydney (UWS) and funded through a federal government grant, this conference aims to deliver you an insight into the excitement and fulfilment provided by a rewarding career in academia.

This conference will stimulate and support the development of academic practice and provide you with the opportunity to hear from a number of highly successful academics.

The conference program includes a number of opportunities to attend workshops on relevant themes and issues facing early career academics, structured in a way to allow for detailed analysis and discussion. The program also offers a rich array of expertise through keynote presentations and small group discussions from a number of the following distinguished academics, including Australian Vice-Chancellors and Deputy Vice-Chancellors.

The conference aims to:

• showcase many of the exciting and rewarding careers available in academia

• showcase academia to late stage doctoral students and early career academics

• provide a forum for exploration and discussion of academic practice issues including: - transitioning from student to academic - transitioning from profession to academia - publishing as an early career academic

• provide an opportunity for collaboration on key areas of academic practice across Australian higher education institutions.

Who Should Attend:

Higher degree research students in doctorate or Masters Hons programs, post doctoral fellows who have recently completed their doctorate, and early to mid career academics.
