Dear Members,

As you are all probably aware, the Australian Research Council
(ARC) has commenced its review of the ERA Ranked Outlets for 2010. In the last
round of the ERA the
Australian Critical Race and Whiteness Studies Association
ejournal (now re-named Critical Race and Whiteness Studies,
http://www.acrawsa.org.au/ejournal/) was given
a C rating. Compared against the
criteria, the journal exceeds this and warrants at least a B rating.

Critical Race and Whiteness Studies publishes scholarship
with strong links to Cultural Studies in Australia. This is evident in the
number of Cultural Studies researchers
who have published with the journal
and/or are members of the editorial board and international advisory committee.
Cultural studies has a strong disciplinary history
with the politics of race
and representation, as evident in one of its founding texts, Policing the
Crisis: Mugging, the State and Law and Order (1978) by Stuart Hall,
Chas Critcher, Tony Jefferson, John N. Clarke and Brian Roberts.

Increasing the ranking of the journal will make it a more
appealing place for academics to publish and will add to the overall status of
critical race and whiteness studies
as an important and significant field of
inquiry.

The ARC is currently calling for individuals to make
submissions presenting arguments as to why they believe any outlet should be
ranked more highly in the next ERA.
As such, you may be interested to make a
submission advocating for Critical Race and Whiteness Studies to receive a
B rating. To do this, you will need to visit:

https://roci.arc.gov.au/

where there is a simple signup process, following which you
can search for the journal. The journal is currently listed under the old title
so please explain in your submission
that the journal has been renamed the
Critical Race and Whiteness Studies Ejournal (with a new ISSN: 1838-8310).

The submission process is relatively brief. There are two
places that you can provide (a limited amount) of information to justify your
suggestion for re-ranking (in a specific
response to a request to provide
justification and in a general comments box). Attached is a document
outlining information that you might like to include (you
are
welcome to paraphrase or rewrite this, but note you can only include
approximately 200 words or 1024 characters in each of the two spaces where
comment is allowed
to justify a re-ranking, and you will not be able to submit
your responses if they exceed the character limit which includes spaces as
characters).

You will also in your submission be asked (in steps
1, 2 and 4) whether the FoR codes for the journal and other points about
its status should be changed. The best advice is
that these should all be left
as is (including that the journal is not multidisciplinary) as the current
codes and status information are the best available/most accurate.

Making a submission is of course entirely optional but it
seemed useful to share this information for anyone wishing to make a
submission. The deadline for submissions is
8am, April 4th 2011.

cheers,holly.
