Force/Magnitudes Nanotechnology Workshop: 3-5 February 2010

Force/Magnitudes Nanotechnology Workshop is a hands-on workshop at the  
Curtin University Department of Chemistry Scanning Probe Microscopy  
Facility. A collaboration between the Nanochemistry Research Institute  
and the Centre for Research in Art, Science and Humanity, it aims to  
introduce artists and scientists to the visual technology of nano  
including the Atomic Force Microscope. The workshop will investigate  
the nano world, exploring the limits of our understanding of the  
physical world and of what nano futures may hold.

Run in conjunction with the John Curtin Gallery art in the age of  
nanotechnology exhibition (http://johncurtingallery.curtin.edu.au/exhibitions/future.cfm 
) and the strange futures: collaborations that make nano-art symposium  
(http://crash.curtin.edu.au/program/index.cfm#strangefutures),  
participants will get to scan their own (previously prepared) sample.  
Some possible materials include glass, hair, crystals, salts,  
diamonds, paper or smooth metal surfaces, some powders and flat  
organic matter (leaves, parts of insects) or paint on a smooth  
surface. You are encouraged to discuss what you want to scan beforehand.

The workshop is open to artists and scientists. The workshop costs  
$150 and, because of the size of the facility, is limited to 8 people.
