The National Museum of Australia international symposium 'Barks, Birds &
Billabongs: Exploring the Legacy of the 1948 American-Australian Scientific
Expedition to Arnhem Land', to be held 1620 November 2009, is a major event
in terms of cross-cultural scholarship. American and Australian scholars
will join forces with representatives from the major Aboriginal communities
of Arnhem Land to re-appraise 'the last of the big scientific expeditions' -
and event that in many ways encapsulates the post-World War II zeitgeist.
