Dear Colleague,

Throughout May and June, the Australian Academy of the Humanities is running briefing sessions to inform scholars in the arts and humanities about new funding opportunities for international linkages.

Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, has recently opened up funding through the International Science Linkages (ISL) programme to include the humanities and arts. This is part of a $1 million boost to support the arts, humanities and social sciences through their two learned academies. The broad aim of the programme is to facilitate and support research cooperation between Australian researchers and leading counterparts from overseas.

In the second half of 2009, the Australian Academy of the Humanities will conduct a funding round to support a mix of international collaborative research activities to take place in 2010.

We are seeking input from Australian humanities and arts scholars to help shape that funding programme.

The Newcastle session will take place at the University of Newcastle.

When: 2pm-4pm, Monday, 15 June 2009.
Where: The Treehouse, Level 1, Shortland Union Building, Callaghan Campus.
(For directions, please see http://www.newcastle.edu.au/service/campus-maps/callaghan-campus.html Map ref. D7)

The briefing session will feature short presentations on the ISL programme and grant administration, with plenty of time for open discussion.

Please RSVP by 12 June 2009 to Kylie Brass, by email kylie.brass at humanities.org.au, or phone (02) 9036 7642.

We're also running a short online survey on international research collaboration. So far the response has been fantastic. If you've not already taken it, please follow the link <https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=wgIBcU76_2b6QiSFWVG9zyXw_3d_3d >

More information about the ISL programme will be posted on our website (http://www.humanities.org.au/ISL.html) as it becomes available.

Best regards,

Kylie
