Project Officer, Digital Storytelling
Creative Industries Faculty

Fixed-term, full-time appointment for 12 months

A Project Officer is required by the Research Office of the Creative
Industries Faculty to assist a Steering Committee in the coordination,
development and maintenance of Digital Storytelling and co-creative
initiatives at the nexus of research, teaching and engagement.

Closes: 25 January 2008

Salary: $45 907 to $51 777 pa

DUTY STATEMENT

Purpose of Position
A newly formed Steering and Advisory group of senior and active researchers
has been established to steer and manage the coordination, development and
maintenance of Digital Storytelling and co-creative initiatives at the nexus
of research, teaching and engagement. The Project Officer will assist the
Creative Industries Faculty Research Office, under close supervision and
direction from the Steering/Advisory Group, to develop applied commercial
research opportunities by assisting in the building, coordination and
facilitation of the Faculty¹s capacity to lead innovation in Digital
Storytelling and co-creative media. The Project Officer will assist in the
development and maintenance of collaborative relationships within the
Faculty, across the University, and with external clients such as the State
Library Queensland; maintain and organise recordkeeping; arrange meetings;
ensure communications are maintained amongst all parties; and assist in the
organisation and delivery of training.

Organisational Relationships
The Project Officer will report to Associate Professor Jo Tacchi for regular
supervision and performance planning and review, and will be required to
liaise with other Faculty staff involved in Digital Storytelling
initiatives, and particularly take direction from the Advisory group on this
Digital Storytelling and co-creative media project. The Project Officer will
also liaise with relevant stakeholders across the University and external
parties (eg the State Library Queensland).

Duties include:

    * Assisting in the establishment of contacts and maintenance of ongoing
relationships regarding digital storytelling within the Creative Industries
Faculty and beyond, including attendance at meetings and maintaining online
contact with stakeholders via meetings, telephone and email.
    * Assisting the Advisory Group to develop and coordinate the delivery of
Digital Storytelling workshops for a variety of clients and contexts,
including Faculty-based OEtrain-the-trainer¹ workshops.
    * Assisting the Advisory Group in the development and use of an
evaluation protocol and other OEaction research¹ instruments for use in
association with workshops.
    * Developing and maintaining a database of Digital Storytelling workshop
trainers.
    * Take administrative responsibility for advising on, and coordinating,
technical requirements for workshops, under the supervision of the Advisory
Group.
    * Take administrative responsibility for advising on, and coordinating,
a Faculty Digital Storytelling archive strategy and web presence under the
guidance of the Advisory Group.
    * Liaising with other areas of the University for the purpose of
assisting the Advisory Group to promote the commercial delivery of
co-creative media research, training and development services.
    * Assisting in coordinating a Faculty colloquium on innovation in
Digital Storytelling and co-creative media.
    * Supporting research collaborations in Digital Storytelling and
co-creative media by providing research assistance in developing funding and
publication initiatives to the Advisory Group members.
    * Undertaking other appropriate administrative and research duties at an
appropriate level as specified by the supervisor.
    * Being accountable for complying with health and safety policies,
hazard reporting and safe work practices.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

   1. Completion of a degree in a relevant discipline.
   2. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across a variety of
disciplinary, cultural and organisational contexts.
   3. Demonstrated applied knowledge of creative multimedia and relevant
project management software.
   4. Demonstrated knowledge of computer software including the Microsoft
Office suite, email, internet and databases.
   5. Demonstrated capacity to advise on equipment requirements, including a
current awareness of technologies for digitally capturing and manipulating
sound and images.
   6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with research, teaching
and professional staff as well as proven ability to use initiative and work
effectively with minimal supervision.
   7. Demonstrated written communication skills that will enable the
appointee to assist in the coordination of workshops, manage and document
research data, assist in the preparation of written reports, and feed into
material for scholarly and other publications, as well as proposals for
funded and commissioned research.
   8. Sound knowledge of health and safety, equal employment opportunity and
equity principles with a demonstrated ability to implement such principles
at an operational level.

Desirable:

   1. Understanding of Digital Storytelling and/or co-creative media.
   2. Experience with working effectively in a large organisation.
   3. Familiarity and/or experience with OEaction research¹ methods and
approaches.
