Cheers folks,
thought I try this channel to see if anybody can help me with a
problem I have with a project I am currently working on. It is
basically a book on the workings of song lyrics, and my theoretical
rumblings take (various versions of) 'Scarborough Fair' as a guiding
example. The tune obviously goes back a long way, but was
re-popularised by Martin Carthy in the 1960s, and then (after Dylan
filched from it and Faithfull covered it) of course released by Paul
Simon in various versions. Now, Simon neither acknowledged the piece
as a traditional nor that he had learned it from Carthy. My problem is
the following: I know that Carthy was not amused, sued Simon, and that
he was successful. But I have no material on the law suit or its
coverage. Does anyone have any sources or know where to go looking, at
least?
Best,
Lars
