Research Fellow (ARC Federation Fellow Program) 

CENTRE FOR CRITICAL AND CULTURAL STUDIES 

Excellent opportunity for recently graduated PhD/early career researcher
in Media and Cultural Studies to work in a stimulating and challenging
research team environment

The Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies is located in the Faculty
of Arts at The University of Queensland's St Lucia Campus. The Director,
Professor Graeme Turner was recently awarded an ARC Federation
Fellowship, and this position would involve working on a designated
project 'Television in the post-broadcast era' within the Fellowship
program. 

The Federation Fellowship program investigates the varying roles
contemporary television plays within an array of nation-states and
regions as well as within a range of commercial, institutional and
regulatory environments. More specifically, it examines the particular
formations of television in the various operating environments with
special attention to the competing or complementary roles played by new
media such as the Internet - particularly in the provision of news and
current affairs.

The Role: The position is funded by the ARC Federation Fellowship Grant,
the Vice Chancellor and the University's Office of Research. The
successful appointee will have access to project funding for research
related travel and maintenance. There will be opportunities to work in
collaboration and independently, and to publish and disseminate research
outcomes.

In addition to working on the Federation Fellowship project, the
research fellow will be able to develop their own research interests,
undertake some limited graduate student supervision and participate in
the broader activities of the Centre and the Faculty of Arts. 

The Person: The successful applicant will have a recent PhD and research
experience in the areas of media, television or cultural studies or
equivalent, as well as fluency in either an Asian or a Latin American
language. They will have the capacity to undertake independent research
as well as the ability to manage a large and ongoing research project.
If desired, the position could be filled on a secondment basis. 

Remuneration: This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 3 years at
Academic Level B. The remuneration package will be in the range $77,514
to $92,048 per annum including employer superannuation contributions of
17%. Level of appointment will be dependant upon qualifications,
experience and academic achievements.
