University of Queensland Postgraduate  Work in Progress Conference

                         September 24 (Launch Party) - 26, 2006

 

The School of English, Media Studies and Art History's Postgraduate
Society is hosting its 10th annual Work in Progress Prefixing Conference
2006 at Emmanuel College from September 24 - September 26. The
conference covers many disciplines including history, linguistics,
cultural studies, literary studies, media studies, science communication
and art history. ( More info below). Come along and let others know
about your work and learn about the work of other postgrad students from
around Australia and overseas. 

 

Apply to your School to fund your registration fee ( a mere $95
including the cocktail party by the river) from your research support
allocation. 

 

We are happy to receive abstracts as there are some slots still

Frock up for the Riverside Cocktail Party on the evening of Sunday 24th
September which is the start of the Conference (the cost of the cocktail
party is included in Conference registration). The Conference will be
held in the Riverview Room and seminar room overlooking the river at
Emmanuel College. 

 

Our Keynote Speakers for this year are:

 

Aboriginal writer, filmmaker and activist, Sam Watson.  Sam will be the
keynote speaker at the Conference Launch on Sunday evening followed by
the cocktail party on the river.

 

Cultural and media studies academic, Assoc. Professor Gay Hawkins from
the University of New South Wales will provide the keynote address on
Monday 25 September. Gay teaches and researches in the areas of cultural
theory, Australian Media and cultural policies, theories of value,
governmentality, poststructuralism and waste. 

 

Panel Session -What is UnAustralian?

Tuesday 26 September, the final day of the Conference, will start with a
light-hearted discussion on the concept of "The UnAustralian'.  The
panel will include distinguished speakers and will be chaired by
Professor Gillian Whitlock. Find out at last what it means to be
UnAustralian!
