Whither the Orient:

Asians in Asian and non-Asian Cinema

Call for Papers

Issues of representations and self-representations will be the concern
of "Whither the Orient," a conference sponsored by Asia's Future
Initiative and Asia Culture Academy in coordination with the Institute
for Communication Arts & Technology, Hallym University. The event will
be held in the city of Gwangju, Korea, on October 28-29, 2006, as part
of the larger event titled Asia Culture Forum (October 26-30).

"Whither the Orient" aims to provide a healthy and open forum for
academicians and professionals with shared interests to meet and
interact with each other. The conference will invite a few
representative figures in the field to serve as keynote speakers. It
also warmly welcomes film academicians and professionals from all over
the world to propose papers for presentation. The official language of
the conference will be Korean and English, so the conference will
provide simultaneous translation between Korean and English.

Each participant is expected to cover her or his own transportation cost
only. The conference will pay for the printing cost of the proceedings,
