Reading Popular Fiction

A seminar presented by English, Media Studies and Art History in association 
with the English Teachers Association Queensland. 

Professor of English Ken Gelder, author of Popular Fiction: The logics and 
practices of a literary field, discusses the distinctive pleasures of 
popular fiction, and its relation to readers in Australia now. With Professor 
David Carter, Director of the Centre for Australian Studies, University of 
Queensland. 

Novelist Kim Wilkins, author of Giants of the Frost, discusses how writers 
relate to the genres of popular fiction in Australia and the particular 
place of fantasy in reading, teaching and writing popular literature. With 
Stuart Glover, convenor of Creative Writing, University of Queensland and Mel 
Dixon.
