How to Read a Communication Model
Gary Genosko

This talk offers a reflection on the philosophical significance -
spanning recent philosophy of science to the theorizations of Jean
Baudrillard and Felix Guattari - of modeling for communication theory
and uses the example of the famous Shannon and Weaver mathematical
model of communication as illustrative material.

Gary Genosko is Canada Research Chair in Technoculture at Lakehead
University in Thunder Bay, Canada. Among his many books are
Marshall McLuhan: Critical Evaluations in Cultural Theory (2005),
Felix Guattari: An Aberrant Introduction (2002), Full/Empty:
Superficial Abundance and Profound Loss (2001), and Undisciplined
Theory (1998). He is Visiting Fellow in the School of Philosophy at
UNSW and Visiting Scholar at the Power Institute at Sydney University.
