Second Call for Papers for electronic journal New Zealand Journal of
Media Studies
Indigeneity, biculturalism, multiculturalism and the media
The first 2006 issue of New Zealand Journal of Media Studies will be a
special issue focusing on indigeneity, biculturalism, multiculturalism
and the media.
We invite submissions related but not limited to the following kinds of
topics:
Issues of political economy and their implications
Indigenous and ethnic minority media production
Media and a bi/multicultural public sphere
Radio
The impact of the Charter on TVNZ
Historical accounts
[The absent] Pakeha and media/issues of whiteness
Interviews with media personnel working in indigenous or ethnic minority
media
New media
Culture, identity and media
Cultural nationalism
The reporting of Muslims/Islam
Case studies of particular media texts e.g. talkback radio/Letters to
the Editor
Theoretical and research-based contributions are welcomed, as are papers
from postgraduate students. Papers should be 4,000-6,000 words in
length. All manuscripts will be peer reviewed by referees.
Deadline for submissions is May 15 2006.
Style guidelines:
Referencing should be in the text:
* (Brown 1999: 53) for first reference
* (1999: 87) where there are two books by Brown and it is obvious
that this is one of them
* (103) where it is obvious that this is a continuing reference
Bibliography - no extra punctuation:
* Brown Joan (2005) The History of Whiteness Sage London
* Brown Joan and Pink Tere (2003) Maori Documentary and the Public
Sphere Sage London
