Subject: Double Dialgues 2006 On SPACE
On SPACE2-4 June, 2006
Double Dialogues and the University of Otago
invite performances, works, and papers that engage with the topic On
SPACE.
The conference will be held in the School of Language, Literature and
Performing Arts at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, from
Friday, June 2 to Sunday, June 4, 2006.
Contributions are invited on a range of topics that shed light on the
question of space, both in its first and in its succeeding moments, in
its many incarnations and representations, and from a variety of
perspectives in literature and the arts, sociology, history and
politics, philosophy, archaeology and cultural studies. These topics
might engage with, but not be limited to:
* perspective and visual representation
* Euclidian space / pictorial space
* sacred space
* the gallery: private and public space
* cognition and mental space / spatial perception
* cyberspace
* poetic/theatrical space
* absolute and relative space
* the space of science: the plenum and the void, the bounded and the
infinite
* the space of culture and cultures
* third space.
Proposals for conference papers of not more than 250 words should be
sent to Professor Tim Mehigan at the University of Otago
(tim.mehigan at stonebow.otago.ac.nz) by December 1, 2005.
A selection of papers from the conference will be published in the
internet journal Double Dialogues, edited by Ann McCulloch and Ron
Goodrich (Deakin University), Paul Monaghan (University of Melbourne)
