HEAT and the Writing and Society Research Group at the University of
Western Sydney present an evening with New Zealand writer, Elizabeth
Knox, in conversation with her sister, Dr. Sara Knox. The session will
be chaired by Ivor Indyk, and there will be lively, wide-ranging
discussion about why Elizabeth writes fantasy; the differences between
writing for adult and young-adult audiences; the eccentricities of
family and other influences that have shaped her imagination.

Elizabeth Knox is an award-winning NZ novelist, whose sensual prose
holds its readers with the depth and detail of its characterisation.
born in Wellington, and a graduate in English from Victoria University,
Elizabeth's seven novels include the internationally successful The
Vintner's Luck, which won the Deutz Medal for Fiction in the 1999
Montana New Zealand Book Awards, and the Tasmania Pacific Region Prize.
In 2000 Elizabeth Knox was made a laureate of the Arts Foundation of New
Zealand, and in 2002 she was made an Officer of the Order of Merit. The
Vintner's Luck is published in seven languages and is being made into a
film by Niki Caro, director of Whalerider. Daylight was short-listed
for Best Book in the South Pacific & South East Asian Region of the 2000
Commonwealth Writers Prize. Elizabeth Knox's latest book is Dreamhunter.
Part Two of the >Dreamhunter Duet, Dreamquake, will be published in May
2006.
