The National Centre in HIV Social Research (NCHSR) conducts research into
the social and cultural dynamics of HIV, other sexually transmissible
infections and hepatitis C, especially sexual and drug-using behaviour. The
successful applicant will undertake and publish empirical social research on
sexuality, sexual practices, knowledge and attitudes among NSW and
Queensland prisoners, using interviews, focus groups and questionnaire
surveys, under the direction of the principal investigators. The project
would be a suitable basis for a PhD thesis or book. This job is part of an
NHMRC-funded project on the sexual health behaviour and attitudes of
Australian prisoners.

Selection criteria include: Honours or postgraduate degree in social
science, public health or social work; experience in the collection and
analysis of qualitative data; good communication skills; experience in using
quantitative data; experience in writing and submitting papers for
peer-reviewed publication; understanding of issues related to HIV, health
and sexuality. (Full details in information pack.)

This is a fixed-term position available until 31 August 2007. Salary
$44,756- $59,637 per year (plus up to 17% employer superannuation plus leave
loading.)
