The Centre for Cultural Research at the University of Western Sydney invites
applicants for the following three PhD scholarships:


(1) Centre for Cultural Research Priority Postgraduate Research Award

To undertake research in one or more of the following areas: cultural
diversity and community relations; urban development in cultural
perspective; art, culture and heritage; cultures of media, technology and
environment; or transnational connections.



(2) ARC Discovery Postgraduate Research Award -- Globalisation and the
Biopolitics of Ageing

To develop a PhD topic in the context of a project directed by Dr Brett
Neilson, that examines the transnational spread of anti-ageing technologies
as a means to  understanding the changed conditions for ageing in the era of
globalisation.



(3) Discovery Postgraduate Research Award -- Cultural Complexity and
Regional Development

To develop an empirically grounded PhD topic under the supervision of
Professor Ien Ang, focusing on the increasingly complex cultural landscape
of urban regions such as Western Sydney as a result of  the very diverse
backgrounds of new and old residents and migrant settlers.



Scholarship:  Tax-free stipend of at least $25,000pa plus project support
funding



Applicants must have a First Class Honours degree in a relevant discipline
or equivalent qualifications, and an interest in the research area applied
for. Prior relevant professional experience or research assistance
experience is desirable.
