Call for Papers:
Journalism Education Association Conference
Gold Coast International Hotel,
Surfers Paradise. Queensland
Tuesday 29th November ? Friday 2nd December, 2005
Hosted by School of Arts, Griffith University.
Conference Themes:
The theme for the JEA 2005 Conference is:
Journalism and the Public
The theme suggests a number of sub themes such as:
· Reporting the Community: values, representations, stereotypes
· Journalists as Cultural Workers
· How Journalistic Work is Changing
· Media and Freedom
· Beyond Newspapers: media in new contexts
· Magazines and Lifestyle Reporting
· The Challenges of Reality
· Literary Journalism
· Getting Some Ethics
· Media History
We would also like to focus on journalism education and youth:
· Where are the Young Voices
· Why are young people turned off the mainstream: Blogs rule
· Who is going where? The employment market
· How journalism students? career goals are changing
· Teaching Technology: is this part of a journalism education?
We are also planning to set some time aside on Friday, 2nd December to
focus on professional development issues.
Any paper on a topic relevant to journalism and journalism education is
also welcomed. Submission guidelines are on the webpage at

The conference organisers are in negotiation with a number of national and
international speakers and more information will be available soon.
Registration
The early-bird conference registration rate is $380 which includes lunches
and morning and afternoon teas (Wednesday ? Friday) as well as an
introductory cocktail party on the Tuesday evening. The Ozzie Awards will
be held at a poolside BBQ on Thursday evening at a cost of a further $80.
