[csaa-forum] Middle English help

I am interested in help with a translation of a Middle English sentence.

Any help or pointers to the right person appreciated. The text is 
from the first page of Caxton's 1485 translation of Charles the Great:

"And also in recountyng of hye hystoryes the comune vnderstondyng is 
better content to the ymag[i]nacion local than to symple auctoryte to 
which it is submysed."
