In reply to Alan, yes I think it is. I think it comes down to a question of
prioritising your personal values; if you value liberal moralism over
compassion for instance.

This is a matter of emphasis that has divided the Christian church for
centuries: the different emphasis placed on the righteousness of God
compared to the mercy and compassion of God. It shows today in the
opposition between fundamentalism (with which we are becoming increasingly
familiar) and Liberal Theology.

It would be a mistake to think that all right wing supporters are lacking in
intelligence, awareness, or information. Many of them are highly intelligent
and aware - this is what makes the left/right struggle so difficult. If it
was really just about informing the ignorant or unintelligent, the left
would have one long ago. It is still an ideological struggle that goes to
our core personal beliefs.
