> In the first half of 2004, New Zealand galleries featured several prominent shows of contemporary Asian art, notably > "> Mediarena: Contemporary Art from Japan> "> (Govett Brewster Art Gallery), > "> FRUiTS: Tokyo Street Style> "> (The Dowse) and > "> Concrete Horizons: Contemporary Art from China> "> (Adam Art Gallery). The exhibitions comprised artworks in a range of media, including photography, installation, sculpture, video, performance and new media. As a response to these exhibitions, the new editorial collective of the New Zealand Journal of Media Studies invites articles that critically reflect on these shows and both the dialogues they have generated and the wider contexts that have produced or inform them. Papers are invited on a range of topics relevant to media studies, media arts and the region, gathered under the issue title > '> '> Asian> '> Media Arts Practice in/and New Zealand Aotearoa> '> , to be edited by Melanie Swalwell, Verica Rupar and Tony Schirato. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
>
> New media and cultural difference
> The reception of new media art
> Identity and in-betweenness
> Diasporic communities and new media
> New media and the local/global
> Artist(ic) exchange(s)
> New Media and the field of art
>
> Short articles (of 3,000 words) and longer articles (of up to 7000 words) are now invited. The MLA style referencing system should be used for submitted articles. Articles will be peer reviewed and published in a special themed issue of the soon to be relaunched New Zealand Journal of Media Studies.
