THE BUSINESS OF STORY TELLING
a discussion facilitated by SPINACH7
Media is the art and culture of story telling. It is a mirror on society
and
bears witness to the happenings around us. It presents the information
we
use to make decisions about our lives.
Today's media is compromised by its obligations to the advertising
industry,
government and the big business community. Sales figures and ratings
decide
what makes the news and shape contemporary culture.
Does profit-making override the duty of the media to inform society? Or
is it
possible for the media to reclaim its integrity within a model that is
financially successful?
