Enrol now at Charles Darwin in Alice

Roll up, roll up - and join the 16,000 students who are furthering their
careers by studying at Charles Darwin University.

It may be May, but many people do not realise they can begin their studies
now, whether it be for a Bachelor or postgraduate degree or a Vocational
Education and Training certificate.

Adelia Mu-Prasad, Senior Student Advisor, Careers and Recruitment, said
most Higher Education courses accepted mid-year enrolments. All VET courses
are open for continuous enrolment.

The careers and recruitment team will be setting up an information display
on Wednesday, May 18 on the Alice Springs campus from 12 noon to 2pm to
cater for potential students to inquire during their lunchtime.

Higher education courses are available in such diverse fields as tourism,
information technology, business, environmental sciences, education, health
and nursing, and Indigenous studies.

"We still have places available in all our VET courses," Ms Mu-Prasad said.
"At a time when employers are crying out for people in the skilled trades
areas, Charles Darwin University can offer first-class training for
apprentices and prospective employees."

Students are only accepted for some of the VET courses if they are already
doing an apprenticeship. "Group Training NT can match employers who need
apprentices with people who register with them," she said.

One of the higher education courses being offered in Alice Springs is the
Bachelor of Environ-mental Science. The entire degree can now be completed
in Alice Springs, with many units available internally on campus and others
available externally.

The degree provides graduates with a thorough knowledge of environmental
science, including the ability to apply skills in scientific method.

Course co-ordinator Dr Christine Schlesinger said: "It includes units in
Biology, Ecology, Design and Analysis of Biological Studies and
Environmental Issues with electives ranging from Ecological Restoration and
Rehabilitation through to Applications in GIS.

"Graduates of the degree would be eligible for employment in professional
areas of environmental science and environmental management or to pursue
post-graduate studies."

Dr Schlesinger, an arid-zone ecologist, is available to assist students in
planning their course of study and to provide ongoing support.

"I am committed to ensuring Alice Springs students can access a quality
Environmental Science course - tailored to the region and to their needs,"
she said.

VET and Higher Education courses start on July 25. Higher education
external and mixed-mode enrolments close on July 8. Internal enrolments
close on July 15.

Ms Mu-Prasad said a Tertiary Enabling Program also was available. "This is
designed for people who have been out of study for a while, never completed
secondary school, or feel they need to improve their study skills," she
said. "Through this program, you will gain the minimum entry requirements
for most Charles Darwin University degree programs."

Central Australian students seeking further enrolment details should
contact the University's hotline on 1800 654 865, or email
courses at cdu.edu.au.
