Enrol now at Charles Darwin
Roll up, roll up . . . and join the 16,000 students who are furthering
their careers by studying at Charles Darwin University.
It may be May, but many people do not realise they can begin their studies
now, whether it be for a Bachelor or postgraduate degree or a Vocational
Education and Training certificate.
Adelia Mu-Prasad, Senior Student Advisor, Careers and Recruitment, said
today most Higher Education courses accepted mid-year enrolments. All VET
courses are open for continuous enrolment.
The careers and recruitment team will be setting up information displays
and running seminars in and around Darwin and Palmerston over the next few
weeks, starting on Monday, May 9.
Higher education courses are available in such diverse fields as
Information Technology, law, biomedical science, business, communications,
humanities and social sciences, engineering, architecture, performing and
creative arts, education, health and nursing, and Indigenous studies.
"We still have places available in all our VET courses," Ms Mu-Prasad said.
"At a time when employers are crying out for people in the skilled trades
areas, Charles Darwin University can offer first-class training for
apprentices and prospective employees."
Students are only accepted for some of the VET courses if they are already
doing an apprenticeship. "Group Training NT can match employers who need
apprentices with people who register with them," she said.
One VET area proving extremely popular is the Crocodylus World Practice
Firm, at which more than 50 students, including international students, are
studying for Certificates or Diplomas in Business.
Course coordinator Bev Luke said: "It's an exciting way for students to
learn different aspects of working in an office environment at all levels,
while operating a business. It is an ideal environment for training in
small business operations, retail, tourism and hospitality; private
industry and public sector administration courses. It also involves
partnerships with industry, thus giving reality to education and training.
"Students develop and practice business skills as well as take on
responsibilities as if they were at work. They become virtual staff of the
organisation and receive a virtual salary.
"Staff buy and sell goods and complete projects by undertaking office
administration, advertising and promotions, market research, salaries and
accounting practices, reception and human resources administration.
"No actual real transfer of goods or money occurs, but all other business
transactions take place."
Information seminars and displays include:
Mature Age Entry Seminars on Monday (Casuarina Shopping Centre, Trax
Training Room, from 12-1pm; Casuarina campus, Building 23.01 from 6-7pm)
and Tuesday May 10 (Palmerston campus, Building A2.43, from 6-7pm);
An Information Night on the Casuarina campus on May 18, from 6-8pm;
A display stand at the Arafura Games, from May 15 to May 21;
Shopping centre displays in the Darwin Mall on Wednesday May 11 and May
20 and at Casuarina and Palmerston on May 19, June 8 and June 18;
Presentations to Territory secondary schools;
Displays at Perth, Cairns and Townsville career expos.
VET and Higher Education courses start on July 25. Higher education
external and mixed-mode enrolments close on July 8. Internal enrolments
close on July 15.
Ms Mu-Prasad said a Tertiary Enabling Program also was available. "This is
designed for people who have been out of study for a while, never completed
secondary school, or feel they need to improve their study skills," she
said. "Through this program, you will gain the minimum entry requirements
for most Charles Darwin University degree programs."
Students seeking further enrolment details should contact the University's
hotline on 1800 061 963, or email courses at cdu.edu.au.
