ICT in Education in Developing Countries - email list --ICTDEVED

This mailing list is for Lecturers, Educators, IT Technicians, Researchers, Policy Makers and Administrators interested in discussing and sharing information on the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education for community and individual development, particularly in developing countries. There is widespread agreement that education plays a foundation role in the development of society and in the economic and social development of communities. In areas and countries that are developing their economies and where poverty impacts on the lives of many, education is used as a way of helping people improve their lives. Technology has always played a role in educational provision. Information Communication Technologies are increasingly used in many developed countries as a tool of education activity to provide better and more efficient learning and to reach more people. This is particularly apparent in the way that the Internet is used to disseminate information and for distance education. However, developing countries have a lack of IT infrastructure and resources and there is a well documented and debated digital divide between the technologically advanced and the technologically developing countries. This mailing list is a forum for discussion of issues relating to the use of ICT in education in developing countries. This is a place to debate ideas, present information, report on practice and research, and to ask for help. It is a moderated and private list. Email addresses will not be forwarded to any other group, organization or individual.

The List is moderated by Dr Greg Shaw of Charles Darwin University, Australia. (http://www.cdu.edu.au/research/profiles/profile_shaw_g.html)
